Volume up and down physical buttons can be used for scrolling the article.
To prevent any ulterior movements to switch from one article to the next, it could be possible to mark the current article as read and skip to the next one using this button as well.
Once you reach the end of an article, pressing the volume down button twice may mark the article as read and skip to the next one.
A similar thing might be done with the volume up button as well, without marking the article as read however.
A toast message might be displayed to warn the user about what is going to happen.
